J&A BHG Training in CPR and First Aid for Students Pursuing Masters in Construction Management at JNIAS Hyderabad

On February 22nd, 2025, J&A Bharat HSE Foundation conducted a vital CPR and First Aid training session for students pursuing their Masters in Construction Management at JNIAS Hyderabad. This session was organized under the leadership of Prof. Ramana, Chair for Student Scholarship and Mentoring and Ex-Dean of NICMAR, alongside Dr. Laxminarayan Proddutoor, Chair for Health & Wellbeing.

The training session went beyond the typical CPR demonstration and basic first aid techniques by introducing two unique and crucial features that are especially relevant in the construction industry.

First Unique Feature: Choking Rescue Device Demonstration
For the first time, participants were introduced to the use of a choking rescue device. Choking is a life-threatening emergency, and quick intervention is critical to saving a victim’s life. The choking rescue device allows immediate and effective action, especially in environments where access to advanced medical help may be delayed. The hands-on practice following the demonstration allowed the students to gain confidence in using the device.

Second Unique Feature: Transporting Injured Victims Safely
Injuries at construction sites are unfortunately quite common, and how these victims are transported can significantly impact their recovery. Improper handling or rushing to transport an injured person without considering their condition can lead to further harm, including the risk of paralysis. The training session provided a detailed demonstration of the correct methods to safely transport injured victims from the construction site to an ambulance and then to the hospital. This is a crucial skill, as proper handling can be the difference between life and death, or between a full recovery and long-term disability.

The session emphasized that construction sites, by nature, are prone to various types of accidents, making it vital for those involved to be equipped with life-saving skills. The practical experience gained during this training not only helped the students learn how to handle choking emergencies but also provided them with the knowledge and techniques required to manage construction site injuries effectively.

The hands-on training, guided by experienced professionals like Prof. Ramana and Dr. Laxminarayan Proddutoor, was the highlight of the event. Students not only gained theoretical knowledge but were also able to practice these potentially life-saving techniques in real-time scenarios, preparing them for any emergency situation they might encounter in the future.

The J&A Bharat HSE Foundation continues to support the holistic development of students in the field of construction management, ensuring they are well-prepared not just for the challenges of their academic journey, but also for handling health and safety concerns in their professional careers. This training was a crucial step towards building a more safety-conscious generation of construction managers.
