Prompts for ChatGPT

Let us understand that how to use the existing tool ChatGPT effectively

Write Better Prompts for ChatGPT (For HSE Professionals)

Writing good prompts saves time and gives better answers.
Here are 17 practical tips to get useful results, especially for safety, health, and environment work:

1. Start with a Role
Say: “Act as a safety trainer” or “Act as an auditor”.
It helps ChatGPT use the right knowledge and tone.
2. State Your Goal Clearly
Don’t write greetings. Start with what you want.
For example: “Draft a toolbox talk on heat stress.”

3. Say Who It’s For
Explain the audience.
Example: “Write for workers with no technical knowledge.”

4. Use Direct Instructions
Tell it exactly what to do.
For example: “List 3 common confined space hazards.”

5. Break Tasks into Steps
First: “Make an outline of the evacuation plan.”
Then: “Write details for each point.”

6. Give Clear Examples
Show what you expect:
“Input: hazard — Output: control measure.”

7. Ask for a Specific Format
If you need a table or checklist, say so.
“Send a table with two columns: hazard and control.”

8. Decide on Examples
•Zero-shot: “Translate to simple English.”
•One-shot: Give one example of what you want.
•Few-shot: Give 3–5 examples separated by ###.
9. Set Limits
Tell it if you want it short or simple.
“Write in under 100 words.”

10. Use Known Structures
Ask it to follow models like:
•Hazard → Risk → Control
•What → Why → How

11. Give Specific Feedback
If you want changes, point to the line.
“In point 2, add an example for PPE.”

12. Ask for Reasoning
If you want to understand its thinking:
“Explain your reasoning step by step.”

13. Skip Polite Phrases
No need to say “please” or “thanks.”
Just say what you need.
14. Improve Your Prompts
Try a few different wordings.
Pick the one that works best.

15. Repeat What’s Important
If something is critical, say it again.
“Remember: keep it short and clear.”

16. Test Different Wording Try:
“Summarize this incident” vs. “Give me a quick recap of the incident.”

17. Add a Calm Cue Sometimes saying:
“Take it step by step”
gets better, clearer answers.
